Welcome to the Python Lab Challenge Contest!
In this contest, you will try to accomplish a series of Python programming tasks from a browser-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE). You'll use the exclusive Cloud Academy lab challenges tool to understand the goals, create the code to solve the problems, and verify your solutions.
Each task within the challenge will allow you to demonstrate your abilities with Python and cloud libraries. Your solutions will be checked in real-time. You can take as many attempts as you need at each task, but only your first successful attempt at the entire challenge will count for the best time competition. Everyone who successfully completes the lab challenge will be entered in the drawing for the runner-up prizes.

My Cloud Academy subscription expired. Do I have to buy a new one to play?
No, this Python lab challenge contest is free to join. Just register on the Lab Challenge Contest website. When you get the email about starting the challenge, you'll be able to use your regular credentials to log in and work on the challenge.
How do I complete the challenge?
Everyone who enters must first register on the Lab Challenge Contest website. You can register any time between now and August 27, 2021, when the challenge will close.
You will receive an email with further instructions on August 23, 2021 (or after you register, if you register after that date).
If you do not already have a Cloud Academy account, you will go through the steps to create a free account. Regardless of whether you already have an account, you will be asked to fill out a form for the contest itself.
When the challenge opens, you will be directed to a special Python lab challenge. Complete it as fast as you can! The person who completes it the fastest will win the grand prize. Everyone who registers and successfully completes the challenge will be entered into a drawing for four runner-up prizes.
What are the prizes?
The grand prize of a $250 Amazon gift card will be awarded to the person who completes the lab challenge in the least amount of time. Our judges will use system logs to determine the fastest completion. The judges may disqualify entries for any irregularities in the system logs.
Four runner-up prizes of a $50 Amazon gift card will be awarded by random drawing to four eligible participants.
What version of Python will I use?
You complete the challenge in our browser IDE with python 3.8 installed.
How long does the challenge take?
You have 60 minutes from the time you start the special Python lab challenge to complete all the steps. You can start the 60-minute timer any time between when the challenge opens on August 23, 2021 and when it closes on August 27, 2021.
After the contest closes, the special Python lab challenge will remain available as a regular part of the training library for users with paid accounts.
I'm new to Cloud Academy. How can I prepare?
How can I brush up my Python knowledge before the contest?
You are welcome to review using the Python training content in the Cloud Academy training library.
Note: If you are using a free account, you may not have access to every piece of Python training content. You can start a free trial to increase your access. The Python Development Playground hands-on lab is a particularly useful lab that is available to all account types.
What if I run into problems during the challenge?
The support team is available via chat (within the lab itself) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) to help you if you run into problems with the challenge. Note: If technical problems substantially increase the time it takes you to complete the challenge, you may be able to start over. Contact support for help.
